FAQs

What is a Psychotherapist?

There are many different health professionals who can provide therapy services. A psychotherapist, while they cannot provide a diagnosis or prescribe medication, can work with people with or without a formal diagnosis in mental health (i.e. ADHD, ASD, OCD, BPD, etc.).

The Ontario Psychotherapy Act explains that:

The practice of psychotherapy is the assessment and treatment of cognitive, emotional or behavioural disturbances by psychotherapeutic means, delivered through a therapeutic relationship based primarily on verbal or non-verbal communication. 2007, c. 10, Sched. R, s. 3.

How does therapy work?

To begin working with Danielle, you can expect to meet weekly or bi-weekly. We find that people benefit most from therapy with regular visits to start, as the work builds over time. There are no limit to the number of sessions you can access, and the frequency of sessions can change as the work evolves and needs change. The journey looks different for everyone. Though we can’t predict how treatment will evolve, we will always make recommendations on the best way to move forward as we progress.

What does online therapy look like?

Online therapy is now more common than it used to be. There are many benefits of meeting online rather than in-person: little to no commute time, being comfortable in the space of your choosing, etc.
